Old-style Charm
Illawarra Mercury
Thursday September 4, 2003
JUST over an hour north of Sydney and across the divide of the Hawkesbury River lies the Central Coast.
Its glorious sandy beaches and rolling surf stretch from the Hawkesbury to just south of Newcastle while to the west is a chain of tranquil lakes and waterways backed by fertile valleys, state forests and the rolling green hills of the hinterland.
The Central Coast has five national parks and many reserves and offers a great variety of activities for tourists or holidaymakers including walking trails, flora, fauna, Aboriginal sites, watersports (including kayaking, diving, surfing, boating, windsurfing), shopping, arts and crafts, wonderful dining, fishing, lake cruises and a rainforest sanctuary.
Gosford is the region's main city and has all the shops, cafes, clubs and other modern facilities visitors want while Woy Woy beside Brisbane Water, one of the first holiday resorts in the area, retains its old-style charm.
The waterfront is still home to fishing boats, jetties, mangroves, oyster beds and pelicans.
All of the beautiful destinations within the Central Coast region have a diversity of accommodation to suit all tastes.
